I predict that “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber will be a story about a man whose life is very sad and dull. The reason why I think this is based on the comic strip “Peanuts”. In the comic strip, Snoopy mentioned how the main protagonist, Charlie Brown “wanted friends but died friendless” and how “he wanted love but died unloved.” I think that Walter Mitty will be a person who daydreams very often to escape from his sad reality. In addition, both of the songs we learned previously this year, “Daydreaming” and “Daydream Believer” showed how the author was unhappy with his/her life. For example, in the song “Daydreaming” by Paramore, the author mentioned how she wanted to “get out and build my own home on a street where reality is not much different from dreams I have”. This shows that she doesn’t enjoy the life she’s having and that she wants to escape this reality by seeing things go the way her dreams does. I also think that Walter Mitty is a person who doesn’t feel happy about himself. Therefore, his daydreams might be about becoming someone he’ll never be able to be. Maybe he will daydream about becoming someone who is very powerful and respected. This is based on the non-fiction article “5 Surprising Facts About Daydreaming” we learned this year. The article talked about how there are such things called “power fantasies” where people daydream to feel powerful and important. These are all the evidences to support my prediction on “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” by James Thurber.
